(1) Subject to subsection (2), trainee solicitors and solicitors to whom these Rules apply who at 1 January 1998 have not completed their continuing education points under rules 5 and 6 of the repealed Continuing Legal Education Rules in effect immediately before the commencement of these Rules ("the previous Scheme") shall complete-
(a) the outstanding points required under the previous Scheme during the 1998 calendar year; and
(b) in addition, shall complete the CPD accreditation points required under the Scheme for 1998 in accordance with the Schedule.
(2) In the case of trainee solicitors in their first year of the contract, subsection (1) shall only apply for the first year and not the second year of the trainee solicitor contract.
(3) Any practising certificate issued to a solicitor to whom these Rules apply in respect of the 1998 practice year shall be deemed to include a condition that the solicitor shall comply with these Rules.
