2. The English entries appear in alphabetical order in the first column, followed by their Chinese equivalents in the second column. The third column cites the legislation from the text of which the relevant entry is selected, by reference to the ordinance number (e.g. Ord. 129/97) or the L.N. number (e.g. L.N. 499/97) accorded to the legislation when it was published in the Gazette. The fourth column indicates the section number of the relevant provision.
3. In order to accurately reflect the wording used in the legislation, the entries in this glossary are made in the same morphological form as they appear in the legislation. Therefore, grammatical variations should be borne in mind when using this glossary, for example, "dissolution" instead of "dissolve" is listed in this glossary.
4. If the English term has more than one distinct meaning, separate entries are made for each of the distinct meanings, for example, separate entries for "public body" for the distinct meanings of "公眾議會" and "公共機構".
5. Some of the English terms are listed more than once in this glossary together with other words to form a compound expression or phrase. In such a case, a separate entry has been made for each of the term and compound expression or phrase, for example, "delineate"(劃定), "delineated"(經劃定界線) and "delineation of geographical constituencies"(地方選區的劃定), "communication"(通訊) and "communications by registered post"(以掛號郵遞方式作出的通訊). These entries are arranged in the same way as the other terms (i.e. in alphabetical order).
6. Some of the entries are made with a note in bracket and small print explaining the context in which the term is used in the legislation to facilitate comprehension by the reader, for example, "next available preferences" with "(on ballot paper)" and "subscriber" with "(nomination paper)".
7. For ease of reference, some useful information of highly referential value contained in the bilingual legislation is compiled at the end of this glossary. The information is categorised into 4 separate appendices so that the reader can locate it not just by alphabetical order in the body of this glossary but also systematically by the subject it belongs to in the appendices.
